My Story With NARUTOSCISSORS | Hair Salon KIYOSHI

Hair salon KIYOSHI, a barbershop with a 48-year history, is a stylish men's salon where the nostalgic atmosphere blends with the energy and skills of young staff in a spacious interior.

Mr. Nobuya Teratani, who has 13 years of experience with Naruto scissors, shared his thoughts on the scissors and his message to young people.

■Please tell us how you first found out about Naruto Scissors.

My master cherished Naruto scissors, which he inherited from his mother. My seniors also used them and praised their sharpness, saying “Naruto scissors can last a lifetime and cut incredibly well!” I was envious.

■ It's great that you had people around you who cherished them for so long!

Yes, but they were expensive, so I thought I could never afford them. However, as I advanced in the salon and gained more clients, I realized I needed a different quality of thinning scissors than what I had been using. That’s when I was recommended Naruto scissors for the first time.

■ Do you remember your first experience with them?

Of course. They cut smoothly without snagging at various angles, which made me very happy.

■ Thank you.
Since then, I have collected several pairs.

I currently use six pairs:

BalticⅡ
4suki Shareline
2suki ST Quarter Thinning S31
ForteClamSmart
BeeVistaHⅠG
HOSOMI 03

■ Which one do you use the most?

The Baltic II. I use it for base cuts, rough cuts, and Jika basami( A technique to smooth out the surface moving the scissors vertically) . It's the scissors I bought with the thought of them being my lifelong partner, so I use them the most.

■ We are honored to hear you call them your lifelong partner.

I believe I am growing together with my scissors, my partners. When I occasionally cut my hand, I take it as a message from my partner saying,
“Your posture is off”,
“Don’t work sloppily”,
or “Calm down”

■Were there any turning points in your barbering career with your partners?

Yes, when my colleague and I were entrusted with managing a shop. The demands, responsibilities, and things we had to oversee were overwhelming. But now, it’s a fond memory and forms the foundation of who I am today.

■Do you have any advice for the younger generation choosing scissors?

Choosing scissors is challenging. There are various manufacturers, price ranges, and personal preferences, and every pair cuts well! But the key is aftercare. To maintain good condition throughout a long barbering career, scissors need care. If you have the skills to maintain them yourself, that's great, but you should think about what to do when they no longer cut well. Naruto's sales team takes good care of us, and multiple craftsmen handle maintenance, so I can trust them completely. I hope this helps as a reference.

I want to continue growing with my scissors and bring joy to many customers along with them. So, Naruto, I look forward to your continued maintenance and support!
